For wrens, chickadees, and the voices of morning
A small house that earns its place in any garden, carved entirely from a single piece of old-growth walnut. The entry hole diameter is drilled at 1⅛" — inviting wrens and chickadees while excluding starlings. The sloped floor has a single drainage groove, the interior walls are rough-cut for fledgling grip, and the front panel is carved with a low-relief scene of a willow tree in spring: branches falling, birds perched. Remove the front panel each autumn for easy cleaning; the brass hinge is the only metal in the piece.
